Oliver’s mom brought him by the studio today for an outdoor mini session to celebrate his 5th birthday. This adorable little guy is definitely a seeker of adventure, a tree climber, tractor lover and sweetheart! So many new faces lately I have had the privilege of photographing and I am loving it!

But it did not rain on us! I am truly thanking mother nature for missing us and letting me capture images of the beautiful Bennett family! It was dark all around us, but that didn’t stop us! I have to admit I had the cutest version of “Hakuna Matata” sung to me by the cutest 3 year old ever!!! Makes me smile just thinking about it! I am really excited to meet their newest addition in a couple weeks too!!!

When I first photographed Tori for her senior session I swear I was laughing so hard I almost pee’d my pants. Well the session with her and her brothers was no different. This time it came from the fake “baby” Tori had to bring home for one of her classes. Tori got to carry around this fake baby the whole session and her mom (Angie) even got to play the role of Grandma at times. During our session it required a diaper change, bottle feeding and even some rocking/bouncing to calm it down. But it made for a very memorable session and lots of laughs!

I had the great opportunity to photograph 2013 Senior Maddy in action this week and it was AWESOME! I am so excited to offer a combined action/portrait senior session. This is something my parents would have wanted for me and I am really excited to now be offering this option! Meet Maddy, a dedicated, driven, fantastic softball player and a catcher too! Total bonus points for being a catcher, I’m not bias at all either (since I didn’t play college softball as a catcher or anything bahahaha). I really look forward to this summers session with Maddy also when we focus on her portrait session! I am so glad her mom contacted me!!!!

Being at the pool today photographing Austin brought so many stories to mind. See my mom was an extremely talented competitive swimmer, not just ok, or good, she was fantastic (or so I have been told by many). Just to note, I didn’t get that gene, I sink like a brick, but that’s beside the point. I called my mom on the way to verify the different strokes and which one was which. I knew them, but wanted to be sure (always good to have resources). That instanly flooded my mind with the story I heard growing up about my mom and grandfather swimming the Connecticut River. I hope I get this correct, I’m sure it won’t be perfect but here it goes….

Growing up my mom and grandfather would go to the Connecticut River for my mom to practice. My grandfather would tie a small row boat to him and drag it while he and my mom would swim (just in case she got really tired and had to rest or something happened, although she really wasn’t allowed to get into the boat). This is where I can hear my mom’s voice in my head telling the story. My mom would be swimming and complaining,
(my mom): “I’m tired, I need a break”
(my grandfather): “keep swimming”
(my mom): I can’t go any further
(my grandfather): “keep swimming”

No matter what my mom said, my grandfather always replied with “keep swimming”.

Strength, Determination, Commitment, Drive… these are values that definitely were passed down to me from both of them and I am so thankful!

Although I am a VERY wordy individual, I am NOT a wordy writer usually. So thank you for traveling down memory lane with me there. I love moments like that and it felt really good to share!

On to the photos! Rocking my NEW Nikon D4, the Menomonie H.S. field house crappy lighting is of NO CONCERN! And since I could not decide color or black/white you get a peek at both :0

I just cannot believe how fast a year goes. Seems like just yesterday I was photographing Eilyn’s newborn session and now she’s “ONE”, but still as cute as every. Since I have been photographing her older sisters (5 and 4) since they were born it’s so much fun to compare all of their similarities and differences. I knew for her session I really wanted to incorporate a cake and I knew the perfect person to make create for me. Lacey makes the most A M A Z I N G cupcakes and is now creating A M A Z I N G cakes too! I am so glad there was cake leftover and I have not let my kids in on my little secret ) Well with a little work we captured these sweet images of Little Miss Eilyn.

These kids are amazing!

If there was an award given to the best behaved kids ever these little munchkins would win it for sure! Maybe they put their best foot forward for me, but I highly doubt it, I’m pretty positive they are just this amazing all the time! Either way not only are they adorable they are so incredibly well behaved… I definitely need their book on how to raise children! This families cup overflows with love and admiration for each other there is no doubt about it!

If I could have blinking lights going and a beeping horn I would. This session was PACKED with CUTENESS! I even talked “mom” into having a picture taken of just her, be prepared all you mommies out there, this is something I will be doing more of . I just couldn’t narrow it down, so I will keep the post short on words and full of adorable images!!!

Amber and I pitched several different ideas when planning her boys session. In the end “super hero L and R” won, which put Amber on a mission to get material and make the capes. With the help of her boys talented babysitter we had a pair for very fun capes!!! Although the studio is not finished we still started the session inside the studio then stepped outside for a few images of the boys outside on the property. We had so much fun and the boys were so stinking cute. I cannot believe how much they have grown in roughly 6 months since I last photographed them.

It is OFFICIAL, Lissa Marsolek Photography will be opening a studio in Menomonie. This is a subject that has been discussed for some time, but NOW is the right time! As we get closer to the Grand Opening, I am really looking forward to sharing more details about the studio, great new features we will be offering and so much MORE… but for now I will leave you with a little peek into what’s to come!

Hannah is not new to being in front of my camera, that’s for sure. We were excited to get her in the studio (even if it’s not 100% completed yet) to capture more images before she graduates this year. Hannah is like family as many of you have read in previous posts, so watching her graduate this year will be filled with mixed emotions. We will be S A D to think time has gone so fast and she won’t be right here any more. Extremely P R O U D of her accomplishments and the this amazing young woman. And we are filled with E X C I T E M E N T for her as she embarks on her new adventures at Winona State this coming fall!
